Energy Law
As our societal energy needs increase and the quest for sustainable energy sources expands, the laws and regulations governing energy production and distribution are also changing. In Maryland, energy generators, suppliers, and other utilities are regulated by the Maryland Public Service Commission. We represent clients appearing before the Public Service Commission in a wide variety of matters. We have helped renewable energy developers and generators including community solar and utility scale solar developers in obtaining Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCNs) to construct new electric generating stations in Maryland, even in the face of local opposition, and we have successfully defended those decisions on appeal. We have also represented a coalition of large users of electricity and gas in utility rate case proceedings before the Maryland Public Service Commission.
